Small Group Tour To Baalbek, Anjar, Ksara
Join our small group full day tour from Beirut to the Beqaa valley and visit two the most important archeological sites in Lebanon, Baalbek and Anjar, that are famous for their preserved ancient ruins, then taste your buds at Chateau Ksara, the oldest winery in Lebanon. Baalbek city is Lebanon’s greatest Roman treasure and can be counted among the wonders of the ancient world and Bacchus and Jupiter are the largest and most noble Roman temples ever built. They are also among the best preserved. The ancient city of Anjar bears outstanding witness to the Umayyad civilization. The tour end in Zahle where you’ll enjoy a wine tasting at Chateau Ksara, one of Lebanon’s oldest and most famous wineries.
The tour starts by picking you up from your hotel in Beirut, on any place of residence within Beirut city.
1st stop is Anjar city: Founded by the Caliph Walid ibn ‘Abd al-Malak at the beginning of the 8th century, Anjar city has a unique Umayyad civilization and is the only Umayyad site in Lebanon. It is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
Anjar is a well worth visiting major archaeological site in Lebanon.
Anjar was an inland commercial center at the crossroads of two important routes leading Lebanon to Syria. The old commercial site of Anjar was composed from baths, storehouses, a little palace, individual shops, an Umayyad Palace, the residential quarters, and a Roman-style tetrapylon.
2nd stop is Baalbek Roman temples: Baalbelk also known as the city of the Sun, is one the premier sites of Roman ruins in the world. In terms of architecture the greatest temples at the site are the Temples of Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus. The sheer magnitude of these have created something of a puzzle for archaeologists as they continuously theorize as to how rocks of this grandeur could have been carved and assembled. For example, the temple of Jupiter is surrounded by 54 columns which stand at nearly 23 meters high and are considered some of the largest in the world. The temple of Bacchus stands out from the rest as it is so well preserved and is adorned with beautiful carvings that date back to the Roman Empire.
Then we will stop at a local restaurant in the region for lunch.
After lunch,
3rd stop: Chateau Ksara winery: Ksara winery is one of the country’s main and oldest wineries. The winery was started in 1857 by Jesuit brothers. When visiting the winery, you will have a tour in its authentic caves and learn more about its history. After touring the caves, you will have the chance to enjoy a wine tasting of the Lebanese authentic wine.
Then we will get back to Beirut, and drop you off at your hotel.
